Undertale Soul Quiz

Answer twelve scenes set in the Underground and the Dark World. You get one of the seven human SOUL colors, its trait, and the items the fallen human with that SOUL left behind.

Six of those trait names come from Undertale's Ball Game. The red SOUL is different: players call it Determination, and the game never does. The guide below marks what comes from the game and what's fan reading.

Your result

Your SOUL is light blue: Patience

You wait, then strike once.

Light blue is Patience. Its Ball Game flag reads: "You waited, still, for this opportunity... then dethroned "Ball" with a sharp attack."

The human with this SOUL left behind the Toy Knife and the Faded Ribbon, both found in the Ruins.

Light blue attacks hurt a SOUL that is moving, so the safe play is to hold still. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with spinning knives and heals with bandages.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Lancer fight. Lancer's patterns are readable if you are willing to wait for them.

Your SOUL is orange: Bravery

You go fists-first.

Orange is Bravery. Its Ball Game flag reads: "You are the kind of person who rushes fists-first through all obstacles."

Its items are the Tough Glove and the Manly Bandanna, both sold by the Snowdin shopkeeper. There's also a Tough Glove in the first Dimensional Box.

Orange attacks hurt a SOUL that stands still, so Bravery is played by moving. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with spinning gloves and heals with thumbs-up.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Chapter 3 Knight fight. The Knight fight on this site is the one that does not reward hanging back.

Your SOUL is blue: Integrity

You move in your own style.

Blue is Integrity. Its Ball Game flag reads: "Hopping and twirling, your original style pulled you through."

The human with this SOUL left behind the Ballet Shoes and the Old Tutu, both found in Waterfall.

Blue mode puts gravity on the SOUL: you jump, then you land. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with ballet shoes and stars, and heals with eighth notes.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Jevil fight. Jevil's fight asks for exact steps, in a rhythm that is yours.

Your SOUL is purple: Perseverance

You take notes and finish.

Purple is Perseverance. Its Ball Game flag reads: "Even when you felt trapped, you took notes and achieved the end of "Ball.""

The human with this SOUL left behind the Torn Notebook and the Cloudy Glasses, both sold by Gerson.

Purple mode limits the SOUL to horizontal lines, the trap pattern. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with books and negative words, and heals with positive ones.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Spamton NEO fight. Spamton NEO is the long fight on this site. It rewards staying with it.

Your SOUL is green: Kindness

You stop to take care of someone.

Green is Kindness. Its Ball Game flag reads: "Your concern and care for "Ball" led you to a delicious victory."

The human with this SOUL left behind the Burnt Pan and the Stained Apron, both found in Hotland.

Green attacks heal, and the green SOUL mode is Undyne's shield: you stand still and block. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with frying pans and fire, and heals with fried eggs.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Chaos King fight. The Chaos King fight is about a father and the kingdom he thinks he is protecting.

Your SOUL is yellow: Justice

You wait for a shot you will not waste.

Yellow is Justice. Its Ball Game flag reads: "Your sure-fire accuracy put an end to the mayhem of "Ball.""

The human with this SOUL left behind the Empty Gun and the Cowboy Hat, both bought from Bratty and Catty.

Yellow mode turns the SOUL upside down and lets it shoot. In the Omega Flowey fight, this SOUL attacks with a loaded gun and heals with four-petal flowers.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: battle simulator. The home battle keeps the rules simple: move the SOUL, pick the target, do not waste the turn.

Your SOUL is red: Determination

You continue to be yourself.

Red is your SOUL. The game never names its trait, but fans call it Determination. Earn a second red flag in the Ball Game and it tells you: "Try as you might, you continue to be yourself."

Two pairs go with red. You start with the Stick and the Bandage. The first fallen human's Worn Dagger and Heart Locket are in Asgore's home. On a Genocide Route they become the Real Knife and The Locket.

Red is the normal battle mode: the SOUL moves freely. SAVE points tell you you're filled with determination, and Alphys's lab notes say it's what lets human SOULs persist after death. That's where the fan name comes from. It's a fan reading, though: no flag or menu calls red Determination.

A fight on this site that fits the mood: Sans fight. Sans is the fight you come back to. Another try, as yourself, after a loss.

The seven SOUL colors

A human SOUL in Undertale is a heart that points down. Monster SOULs are white and point up. Flowey calls the heart "the very culmination of your being." Seven human SOULs can break the barrier. The protagonist's SOUL is red, and battles can repaint it for a turn.

The one-word traits for six colors come from the Ball Game in Snowdin. Finish it fast enough the first time and the game lists them: Bravery, Justice, Integrity, Kindness, Perseverance, Patience. Each colored flag has its own line about how you played.

  • Red: Determination

If two traits tie, this quiz keeps the one earlier in that list: Patience, Bravery, Integrity, Perseverance, Kindness, Justice, then the red SOUL. The same order is on the screen above.

FAQ

Is the red SOUL Determination?

Fans call it Determination. The game never gives red a trait name. Earn a second red flag in the Ball Game and it says, "Try as you might, you continue to be yourself." SAVE points say you are filled with determination. That is where the fan name comes from, and it is still a fan name.
