Black Knife Simulator

Next boss

A weapon-and-song reference for the same Knight battle linked on this site. This is not a separate Black Knife game or difficulty build; use the Knight overview for setup.

Card art for the sword fight: curved black blade, white star pellets, red heart, green box.

A weapon reference, not another game

The Black Knife and Knight overview entry points had identical game archives, source and runtime when compared on 22 October 2026. Choose the overview for setup and battle context. This page focuses on identifying the blade, its story connection and the song name; those references do not unlock an extra boss, item reward or exclusive difficulty in this package. We did not complete a new Knight playthrough in this check.

Hand off the mantle

Click Play, then click the frame so the keyboard connects. A number menu appears ahead of the green box. Choosing Kris prints that the mantle is his, then waits on Z. The announcement follows, and the black sword is already in the figure's grip.

  • 1 puts the mantle on Kris.
  • 2 puts the mantle on Susie.
  • 3 puts the mantle on Ralsei.
  • 4 leaves every hero without it.
  • 5 leaves them without it and multiplies damage by 1.5.
  • 6 leaves them without it and forbids healing.
  • 7 means you are trying not to get touched at all.

Travel with the arrows or with WASD. Confirm on Z. Enter is a second confirm key. Backing out is X, and the slash key matches it: typed lines skip, and the heart's pace drops by half. Tap C to rush speech. Everyone has to fall under 1 HP, Kris included, before the loss triggers. Once Susie and Ralsei are both down, Kris's blows hit harder.

Seven mantle options fill the screen, running from Kris to a hitless rule, before any bullet appears.

Spoilers

The sword and the song

Back in Chapter 2, Queen's light show drives a blade into the earth. Her line is that the Knight sent its will through that blade and raised the fountain from the ground. Chapter 3 is the fight where the weapon is finally visible. The box-splitting swing and the spinning cuts are strokes of it. During the tunnel, the steel itself is the bullet and it travels on a red aim line.

Force the win and the shape stutters. Susie's swing only chips the steel. Black fills the screen, Susie and Ralsei drop swooned, and the notched blade puts Kris on a knee. The cutscene after the chip flies is still a loss for the party. On the grab after that, Undyne intervenes and she is the one taken away.

That chip is equippable. The check says "A dagger-like shard of the Black Knife. Strikes the weakness of dark-element enemies." Attack rises by 16, with SlayDark, and Kris can wear it. Outside the Dark World it checks as a small chip of extremely hard glass that is nearly opaque, and both the name and the attack stat survive the trip. Its slash animation is red and black, in the family of the spinning cut. Titan Spawn suffer tenfold damage from it. A shielded Titan takes triple damage, and an unshielded Titan takes tenfold, where other swords deal half and fivefold. Those multipliers stand in for a dark element the game never actually implements.

In Chapter 5, Ralsei reads a document Asgore wrote a day earlier. It locates black shards at a Dark World from long ago and at the library after the Cyber World was sealed. Susie takes that to mean the Knight made both places.

One prophecy couplet names the weapon outright: "THE KNIGHT WHICH MAKES WITH BLACKENED KNIFE. SHALL DUEL WITH HEROES STRIFE BY STRIFE."

FIGHT is the lit command. The party lines up along the left edge. The shape in the Knight's hand is the curved black sword.

Practice against the blade

Put the mantle on whoever the splitting cut prefers. The cut removes two-thirds of a full bar, or one-third when the mantle is equipped, and it stops at 1 HP. On a learning run, that assignment matters more than the damage multipliers.

Blades that enter from above and below are solid. They pivot, then follow red aim lines across. Grant them a wider berth than a star pellet. On a later tunnel the aim lines twist while the steel is already moving. A harsher pass squeezes the safe lane. You get almost no mercy frames while the steel is crossing.

Spinning red lines strike the whole party together. Filling one bar leaves the other two exposed. Heal before the lines lock in place.

HoldBreath sits in the ACT commands. Fire it a single time, and do it early. Later swings meet a quicker heart. Another press does nothing at all.

Keep cancel held while a red aim line is still drawing. Pace falls to half, which is often enough to step off the steel.

Talking will not close this fight. Drop the foe below four-fifths health, the 1460-damage line, or the screen-wide roar never starts. Wait until the printout says the foe has dropped its guard, quoting "The enemy suddenly let down its guard!", then connect one more blow. Turn order lives on the Chapter 3 Knight fight.

Scratch comments say the stars, the flying steel, the splitting cut, and the closing roar were all made quicker than the first version. A follow-up rebuilt the opening numbers and repaired a fighting glitch. The shot of the number list is that rebuilt menu.

Over on Jevil's fight, the dialogue brings up a descending hand. The Spamton NEO project is the base this sword battle was rebuilt on.

Stars crowd a red heart inside a green box while the black sword reaches in from the right.

Spoilers

Dodging the blade, phase by phase

Same keys as the number menu promised: arrows or WASD, Z or Enter, X or slash to slow the heart, C to rush speech. The sword is the single-edged black blade. Box splitter and the rotating cuts are swings of it. In the tunnel, the steel itself is the bullet.

  • The fight cycles stars, tracking swords, the splitting cut, the tunnel, and the spinning slash. That loop's third pass continues until HP is below four fifths. Then a late spinning cut, a charge you can heal through, and the screen-wide roar.
  • Stars: take a wide gap. Early on you may stand still. The white beams are the shard map. The hitbox is the center dot. Later shards turn red and chase one by one.
  • Swords that track you go red, pause, and cut, in the order they showed up. A diagonal blade still loses to a straight step if you are not crowding it.
  • The splitting cut shoves the board apart and sprays diamonds. It takes about two thirds of a full bar, one third if the mantle is on, and it stops at 1 HP. Near a corner is calmer than inside the corner. Grazing the cleave beats grazing the diamonds for TP.
  • The tunnel has almost no mercy frames. Follow the empty lane, on the right, with small steps. Red lines mark the last crossing. One pass rotates counter-clockwise. Another squeezes the lane.
  • Spinning lines start from the spot you occupied when they appeared. Pick a direction, then correct late, and drift back to the middle before the spiral.
  • During the roar the board is the whole screen. Stars leave, return, and burst. The last slash is down the center. Armor and DEFEND are ignored. The line about the foe dropping its guard is the window that actually ends it.

FAQ

Is the battle the official game?

DELTARUNE itself is Toby Fox's game at deltarune.com. What runs after Play is a fan battle by Bad_Time_Trio1. The curved sword, and the chip that breaks off it, belong to the Chapter 3 loss.

Who wears the mantle for this attempt?

The opening choice is a number, and it picks a mantle bearer before the first swing. Kris is 1, Susie is 2, Ralsei is 3. Choosing 4 leaves the mantle on nobody. Choosing 5 withholds the mantle and raises damage to one and a half times. Choosing 6 withholds the mantle and also shuts healing off. Choosing 7 demands an attempt where no hit lands.

What is that curved sword?

A single edge, bent like a katana, filled black and outlined in white. Flat in the hand, the pommel drops past the bottom and the grip vanishes into the steel. Upright, before anyone moves, it reads as symmetric, close to a wiffle bat. The fight's song is titled with the sword: Black Knife.

Where are the phases written out?

Star bursts, flying blades, and the roar are listed turn by turn on the Chapter 3 Knight fight. A matching sword guide sits on roaringknightfight.com.

Where was the black shard left, according to Asgore's document?

At the library, after the Cyber World formed. The same document also places a shard at a Dark World from long ago. Susie reads both as the Knight's work.
