Mettaton EX fight simulator: ratings, essay, and a yellow SOUL
Play loads PainInCode's package, then the green flag and title-screen Z start the battle. This guide checks the opening and slow key, not a completed quiz or victory.
Start the hosted build, not just the frame
The hosted Mettaton EX battle is PainInCode's project 1077453457, with Nivalosha credited for recoding. We played the current package on 22 October 2026 and inspected its project source; the source fingerprint starts 59e373f17de08334. This guide covers the title screen, FIGHT flow, first dialogue and yellow-SOUL leg attack. It does not claim an essay completion, every later pattern, or a full victory.
There are several separate starts. The site's Play button loads the package. The green flag launches it. The package then displays [Z] to Start. Pressing Z opens the actual battle with a player HP display, four commands and the ratings graph. This extra title-screen step is why a loaded canvas can still look idle.
Controls that match this package
- Arrows or WASD move through the relevant menu or battle space. Z confirms and is also the firing key in yellow-SOUL mode. The source includes Enter as a confirmation/firing alternative; Z was used in our opening playtest.
- Use X for slow movement. We held a horizontal direction for the same short input interval normally and with X: normal movement covered 20 source-coordinate units, while the slow return covered 6. These are test observations, not a frame-rate-independent speed benchmark.
- Do not rely on Shift just because the upstream instructions list it. The hosted slow-input flag responded to X but stayed false with Shift in our explicit key check.
- Tap and release confirmation keys between screens. After selecting FIGHT and the target, stop the meter with another press. Read the next speech bubble, then advance it before expecting the enemy attack to begin.
A boss speech bubble and the moving attack meter are different states. Waiting at the first speech after the hit did not start the leg pattern on its own in our run; a later Z did. Before restarting, identify whether the game is waiting for that input. Switching back from another tab can also leave you with the wrong keyboard focus.
Ratings are feedback, not a health bar
The source initializes ratings to 4000 and player HP to 20. Our opening menu displayed 4000 before the number began to decline. After a landed FIGHT attempt, the first leg-turn capture showed 4296 while HP was still 20. The creator's code includes Action rating popups, including a 300-point first-hit branch. The captured total also depends on time spent waiting; do not expect exactly the same counter on a slower or faster attempt.
The yellow SOUL begins in a compact square below the robot. The early leg shapes sweep across the surrounding space. Keep your movement small enough to reverse when a leg reaches your row. X is useful for a final correction near a narrow gap; normal speed gets you out of a broad sweep sooner. Do not infer a universal safe standing row from one screenshot.
Our first-turn practice included left movement, an X-slowed return, and holding Z during yellow mode. Remaining in the turn without continued dodging later left only 4 HP, so the opening image at 20/20 is not evidence of a no-hit clear. Watch HP independently of the ratings number: a rising show score does not make another collision safe.
What remains source-only
The source has an essay/quiz routine, later attack definitions, item data and ending logic. Those code paths are not all covered by our short session. We did not play another website's Mettaton package for comparison. In particular, we do not copy the official game's final rating requirements into a tested-win claim for this package.
PainInCode warns that tab changes or frame drops can disrupt timing. Stay on the game tab while playing; if controls stop, click the canvas first and use browser game help before sacrificing a run. The build comparison contrasts the observed opening with Lancer and Asgore, and how we test separates direct play observations from source checks and creator instructions.
FAQ
Why is nothing happening after Play?
The package first shows a green-flag launch screen, then a title screen marked [Z] to Start. Press Z there. During battle dialogue, let the speech finish and tap Z again; a waiting speech bubble is not a frozen turn.
Does Shift slow the SOUL in this copy?
Use X. Although the creator's current instructions also advertise Shift, the hosted source reads X for its slow-input flag. In our browser check, X set that flag and Shift did not. X also produced a shorter movement over the same timed input.
Are the ratings and HP the same number?
No. Ratings begin at 4000 and can fall while you wait; player HP begins at 20. Our test reached the first yellow-SOUL leg attack. It did not verify an ending rating threshold.
Is the essay included?
The project source contains an essay/quiz handler and the creator describes it. We did not reach and complete that turn, so input editing and its scoring are not represented as play-tested here.
Can a phone replace the keyboard?
The package lists keyboard controls, not a touch D-pad. Our mobile checks cover the webpage and navigation only. They do not establish touch gameplay or iOS/Safari compatibility.
