Sans Fight Simulator
Press Play for sugiharu1012's Sans battle. The lines are in Japanese. The HUD reads CHARA, LV 19, and KR 92/92.
How to start
Press Play and click the game. Sans stands with his hands in his pockets. The first line is "きょうは すてきなひだ." The bar under him reads CHARA, LV 19, and KR 92/92. The four buttons are Japanese: たたかう is FIGHT, こうどう is ACT, アイテム is ITEM, and みのがす is SPARE.
Z confirms. X goes back. The arrow keys move the SOUL. The author's notes list three healing items: Butterscotch Pie at 92 HP, Instant Noodles at 90 HP, and Legendary Hero at 40 HP, twice.
The opening attack
The speech continues to "はなが さいてる" and "じごくで もえて しまえば いい." In English that speech runs: "it's a beautiful day outside. birds are singing, flowers are blooming... on days like these, kids like you... Should be burning in hell."
The frame with the last of that line shows a blue SOUL in a white box, and the bar still reads KR 92/92. The next frame is a wave of white bones, a red SOUL in the gap, and the bar reading KR 51/92. That bar is a yellow stretch, then magenta, then red. KR means KARMA. It keeps taking HP after a hit, and you are not down until the drain ends.
The opening turns the heart blue, then red for a wave of bones. These two frames are that opening. The later Gaster Blaster patterns are a separate part of the original fight.
Spoilers
The original fight, and this project
Sans is the final boss of the Genocide Route. He waits in the Last Corridor and attacks first. He has 1 HP and dodges the attacks that come before his special attack. The check calls him the easiest enemy, because a hit from him deals 1 damage. KR is what makes that 1 damage keep draining. Beating him is the only way the original fight ends.
The instructions on the Scratch project still say the fight only goes through turn 7. The description's update notes, from 2021, say turn 9 was added on 2 September, turns 10 and 11 on 3 September, and a spare in the middle of the fight on 18 September. Accepting his mercy in the original fight fills the board with bones. The spare dated 18 September 2021 belongs to the Scratch project.
The notes name tp utau's Undertale Battle Engine 3.5 as the reference, and they say remixes of this fight are allowed. UNDERTALE's full attack list runs past the turns this unfinished project claims to cover. The other battles here are DELTARUNE. Sans is the UNDERTALE fight, also listed on roaringknightfight.com. For an English build with a Practice mode, open Bad Time Simulator.
Spoilers
Dodge tips for the corridor
sugiharu1012's project is a partial fight: Z confirms, X goes back, arrows move, and the instructions still talk about an early turn limit even after the 2021 updates. The patterns below are the full Genocide corridor. Sans always attacks first. You only move the battle forward by fighting. Let KARMA finish draining before you eat.
- Most of the first half is a blue heart, so gravity is on and you jump. From the midpoint he mixes red and blue.
- Most hits also apply KARMA. Your HP keeps falling after the strike. You do not go down until that drain ends, unless you are struck again at 1 HP. The Cloudy Glasses and the Torn Notebook slow the drain.
- The opening is a blue slam with bones rising where a red rectangle warned, then a red-heart bone wave with a gap, then four blaster sets: the sides, an X, the sides again, and two huge side beams. For the last of those, hug the top or the bottom.
- Until your 13th attack the heart stays blue: a bone gap of small jumps, a long light-blue bone, random bone lines, four platform patterns, horizontal slides, and a platform blaster. Platforms can be stood on. You can jump up through the white underside.
- Light-blue bones are the ones that punish movement. Standing still is the safe read on that turn. The rule is the usual blue-attack rule.
- If you accept his spare, bones fill the board and it is over. He does not attack during the offer, so you can heal as many times as you want before you answer.
- From your 13th attack to the 23rd, bones on the menu deal 1 damage with no KARMA and cannot finish you. The rest is screen-flicker combos, blasters aimed at you in the red heart, wall slams you must jump away from, and vertical bone lines.
- The final attack is four wall slams, a long fall to the right through bone waves, rising bone walls, and blasters circling five times. After that, slams cost 1 HP each and stop at 1.
- His special attack is a stall. Wait until his eyes close, then push the board left and then down until FIGHT is in reach.
FAQ
Is the battle the official UNDERTALE fight?
UNDERTALE itself is Toby Fox's game at undertale.com. The battle after Play is sugiharu1012's Scratch project. The lines in the battle are Japanese.
What are the controls?
Z confirms. X goes back. The arrow keys move. Click the game after Play so the keys reach it. The menu reads たたかう for FIGHT, こうどう for ACT, アイテム for ITEM, and みのがす for SPARE.
What do the items heal?
The Scratch notes list Butterscotch Pie at 92 HP, Instant Noodles at 90 HP, and Legendary Hero at 40 HP, twice.
Can you spare Sans in this fight?
In the original fight, Sans cannot be spared. The mercy he offers fills the board with bones. A note dated 18 September 2021 lets you spare him midway through the Scratch project. That spare belongs to the fan battle.
How far does this Sans fight go?
The instructions still say the fight only goes through turn 7. The description's 2021 notes say turn 9 was added on 2 September, turns 10 and 11 on 3 September, and a mid-fight spare on 18 September. Those notes stop short of every attack in the original fight.
What does the cheat list do?
Type cheat, then a number. 0 sets HP to 999. 1 turns the SOUL red. 2 turns it blue and adds gravity. 3 sets HP to 20. 4 deals damage. 5 makes the box a square. 6 uses the box from your turn. 7 makes the box wide. 8 returns the state from before an item. 9 sets HP back to 92.
What are the light-blue bones in the Sans fight?
Light-blue bones hurt if you move through them. On that turn, stop. KARMA is separate: after most other hits, HP keeps draining, and eating early wastes the food.
